We are conducting a precision spectroscopy study of Lambda hypernuclei at the K1.8 beamline at J-PARC in Japan. These are unique atomic nuclei that include a single strange quark-carrying heavy particle known as a \"Lambda particle.\" Lambda particles are believed to form naturally in the high-density core of neutron stars. Thus, understanding the interaction between lambda particles and nucleons is crucial for comprehending the internal structure of neutron stars. Besides the two-body force between a Lambda and a nucleon, the multi-body force, particularly the three-body force involving \"a Lambda and two nucleons,\" is considered to have a significant impact in high-density environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
By conducting high-precision spectroscopy of Lambda hypernuclei with the latest experimental equipment, we are advancing research into the strong interaction between lambda particles and nucleons with the highest sensitivity worldwide (J-PARC E94 experiment). In the J-PARC E94 experiment, we observe hypernucleus production reaction events by bombarding a nuclear target with a positively charged pion beam (\u03c0+) and capturing the K+ meson, which contains an anti-strange quark, using the high-precision magnetic spectrometer S-2S. In the S-2S, not only are the signal K+ mesons present, but also a large number of noise particles such as protons and muons. Therefore, efficiently observing the signal K+ mesons while eliminating noise particles is crucial for enhancing signal sensitivity in this experiment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taniguchi has been developing a new detector, an \"acrylic Cherenkov detector,\" to effectively distinguish signals from these noise particles. Taniguchi presented the request for and current status of the acrylic Cherenkov detector's development at the Annual Meeting of the Physical Society of Japan. We are progressing as a team to complete preparations not only for this Cherenkov detector but also for the development of a particle tracking detector with high intensity tolerance, along with other detectors and software. We aim to complete preparations by the end of fiscal year 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
